Kitchen Corner
by Brent Farley ScenicView boasts one of the best chefs in the West! Chef Castillo (who lives in Provo) goes by the name of "Gerry." when asked when he first got interested in cooking, he answered: "I've always liked cooking!" To become a chef, on must complete not only the required schooling to obtain a diploma, but also must gain extensive cooking experience beyond the diploma in order to ear the title of "Chef." Gerry started out working for Taco Bell. From there his cooking career took off, giving him experience and expertise in Chinese, Mexican, Italian, and French restaurants in California and Utah. He's cooked for The Marriott Hotel, Gurus, Terra Mia, and even opened his own place: Fridakahlo. His class answer to the question, "What is your favorite food?"is "Everything!" "You have to taste everything to come up with new ideas," he explained. His family includes his wife and four children (ranging in age from 2 to 23.) In addition to cooking and being with his family, he loves to play soccer and ride his motorcycle. A special treat for ScenicView students is the birthday lunch option. When a student has a birthday coming up, he or she may contact Gerry in advance and he will prepare their favorite meal for a birthday luncheon (only 1 birthday per student per year is allowed :) ). What does Gerry like best about ScenicView? "The students. And, I love seeing students gaining skills for life."
