Doug took some time out of his day to show-off his mothers amazing chocolate chip cookie recipe by making cookies for staff and students. Thanks Doug!

Our outdoor basketball and picklebal court is officially finished and our executive director decided to shoot the inaugural shots. This court will be a great addition to accompany the sports field, pavilion, fire pit, and volleyball court.

Flooding in ScenicView

For awhile, the temperatures were frigid here in Provo. On December 31, 2014, a sprinkler pipe burst in the grand room of the residential building resulting in water filling the room several inches, and soaking down to the floors below. Thanks to the quick response from staff and students, the water was turned off quickly. The damage is still extensive, but not as bad as it could have been.
No more than 24 hours later, a sprinkler burst in the music room. The damage was far more extensive--it soaked into several offices downstairs ruining a few computers, shelving, tiles, etc. One of the rooms was a workroom full of supplies that all had to be removed. Once again, thanks to the quick work of staff and students, no musical instruments were harmed due to the flooding. Not a great start to our New Year, but we are resilient and will move forward!

Friends Visit from the Seville

A group of super seniors visited us from the Seville for Veteran's day. After a delicious lunch, our students put on a short program for them featuring several patriotic songs.

Kitchen Corner
by Brent Farley
ScenicView boasts one of the best chefs in the West! Chef Castillo (who lives in Provo) goes by the name of "Gerry." when asked when he first got interested in cooking, he answered: "I've always liked cooking!"
To become a chef, on must complete not only the required schooling to obtain a diploma, but also must gain extensive cooking experience beyond the diploma in order to ear the title of "Chef."
Gerry started out working for Taco Bell. From there his cooking career took off, giving him experience and expertise in Chinese, Mexican, Italian, and French restaurants in California and Utah. He's cooked for The Marriott Hotel, Gurus, Terra Mia, and even opened his own place: Fridakahlo. His class answer to the question, "What is your favorite food?"is "Everything!" "You have to taste everything to come up with new ideas," he explained.
His family includes his wife and four children (ranging in age from 2 to 23.) In addition to cooking and being with his family, he loves to play soccer and ride his motorcycle.
A special treat for ScenicView students is the birthday lunch option. When a student has a birthday coming up, he or she may contact Gerry in advance and he will prepare their favorite meal for a birthday luncheon (only 1 birthday per student per year is allowed :) ).
What does Gerry like best about ScenicView? "The students. And, I love seeing students gaining skills for life."

Heber Valley Camp Report

Once a year, ScenicView Academy shuts down.

Well, kind of.

Once a year for the last five years, there comes a week where all programming at the Academy is canceled.  For three days, there are no classes, no work—even the kitchen is closed. In fact, most the students aren’t even sleeping in their own beds.
