How Clinicians can Identify, Treat, and Support Recovery in Addiction Treatment

This training will give a comprehensive look into the formation, treatment, and recovery of people struggling with addictions across differing neurological presentations. You will learn prevention tools to help vulnerable populations reduce their risk of becoming addicted to a variety of potential stimuli. You will gain a knowledge of the importance of support and what ongoing therapy would look like during the recovery process. You will also receive instruction on how to provide treatment for many different types of addictions, as well as specialized skills for the treatment of addiction in comorbid disorder presentations.

- In part one, unique stressors that families with individuals with autism experience and how to improve outcomes will be discussed. This will include tips for supporting the individual, the marriage, the siblings, and the extended family.
Part Two: Calibrating as a Therapist
- In part two, adaptations and perspectives for therapists providing mental health counseling for individuals and families with autism will be explored. This will include a review of common treatment concerns, ideas for treatment modalities, ways to structure sessions, and principles for helping individuals and families maintain hope and a positive sense of self.
