ScenicView Academy Has Been Busy!

The past several months have been extremely busy for ScenicView Academy is we work toward better connecting to the community. Take a look at the list below– it’s quite amazing:
Community Outreach
  • Feb. 9 - Marty Matheson, Executive Director, presented to leaders of the community at the Kiwanis Club about SVA.
  • Feb. 18 – Joanna Posey, teacher, presented at the Learning Disabilities Association International Conference in Orlando, FL on her work with Animal Assisted Therapy at ScenicView. Craig Hiatt also attended the conference.
  • Feb. 23 – We celebrated SVA’s 15 year anniversary and unveiled a portrait of our founders Ray and Tye Noorda.
  • Feb. 26 – SVA hosted a training on Executive Functioning by expert clinician and presenter Dr. Adam Schwebach.
  • Mar. 3 – SVA staff member Whitney Clayton was listed in Utah Valley Magazine as one of 40 of the most magical people in Utah Valley.
  • Mar. 9 – KBYU-TV produced and released an interview with Marty Matheson.
  • Mar. 25 – SVA hosted an Ethics training for 100 people (staff and professionals from the community).  The presenters were UVU professor Kris Doty, and U of U professor Ruth Gerritsen-McKane.
  • Mar. 31-April 1 – Generations Conference at the Salt Palace. SVA was asked to present for the first time at this event. Suzanne Grimshaw and Jared Stewart’s presentation was very well received.  We were a sponsor for the event and hosted a table with other vendors.  Keynote speaker was world renowned Autism expert Temple Grandin.  This is the largest behavioral science conference in Utah.
  • Apr. 4– The Daily Herald published a special edition about Autism, including an article and an ad about ScenicView Academy. SVA staff were also included in another article about their work with UVU’s Autism Passages program.
  • Apr. 8 – UVU Autism Conference – many of our staff presented and received very high ratings.  SVA drama students performed. We hosted a table and had a big presence with the development of the conference.  Utah’s largest Autism conference.
  • Apr. 13 – U of U students represented SVA in a radio interview about Autism resources in Utah. SVA was talked about in length about our programming. This was in conjunction with a documentary this group is working on (see below May 2).
  • Apr. 16 – We helped host the Autism Resources of Utah County Council (ARUCC) sponsored Autism Awareness balloon launch and family activity day at the UVU Brent Brown Ballpark.
  • Apr. 21 – UVU Autism Center groundbreaking.
  • Apr. 22 – Southern Utah Autism Conference - Jared Stewart was the keynote speaker and did breakout sessions all day, along with Suzanne Grimshaw, Ryan Hawks, and Scott Wood. 
  • Apr. 23 – UVU Baseball Game/ARUCC Night for Autism – wW helped support the event, and SVA staff Amber Lynn Stoppel (who was on American Idol, 2016) sang the national anthem.
  • Apr. 27 – Jared Stewart was featured in the Iron County Today newspaper for his presentations at the Southern Utah Autism Conference.
  • Apr. 28 – Jared Stewart was recognized in the Daily Herald as the Utah Valley Everyday Hero with an article about him and his work at SVA, including several great photos.
  • May 2 – premiere of the U of U produced documentary film “Losing Ground” about families with Autism and how they access services.  SVA student Taylor Luna is featured prominently in it, and other students were also shown.  Taylor and Jared Stewart were part of a panel discussion and fielded questions as part of the premiere.
  • May 3-7 – Four staff represented SVA at the IECA (independent education consultant association) conference in Boston.
  • May 10 – The article about Jared Stewart being the Utah Valley Everyday Hero was featured, along with a brief write up about SVA in the social media site of the Golden Hat Foundation – an organization in Hollywood that supports Autism.
  • May 11 – SVA was selected as the non-profit organization in May for the Corporate Alliance organization – consisting of businesses throughout Utah Valley. SVA staff presented on our programming. Several in attendance have offered their willingness to help us with events and possible sponsorships for our fundraisers.
  • May 13 – SVA hosted 95 members of student families at our annual Family Day. This was by far the best attendance we have had at a Family Day. 
Upcoming Events:
  • June 3 – SVA with be partnering with Heritage School to host the NATSAP regional conference
  • June 11 – SVA will help sponsor the ARUCC Summer Carnival for families with Autism
  • June 17 – SVA Golf Tournament
  • June 29, 30, July 1 – Romeo and Juliet performances at Heritage School
