Volunteer Process
Getting Started
To get started, please fill out our Volunteer Google Form below so we can gather the necessary information.
Once submitted, our Volunteer Coordinator, Karen Gonzales, will reach out to you to share available volunteer opportunities.
Complete and email all required volunteer paperwork before your first day of volunteering.
Volunteers may not begin until paperwork has been received and approved.
Scheduling & Availability
Typically only one volunteer is allowed per class, and class spots fill quickly each term.
You will be asked to provide your preferred class times; availability is not guaranteed.
Volunteers must commit to a minimum of 8 consecutive weeks to ensure consistency for students.
New volunteers will not be accepted after week 7 each term. Term Dates can be found on our Academic Calendar.
Expectations While Volunteering
Volunteers are responsible for tracking their own hours.
Volunteers must actively engage with students—sit with them, participate in discussions, and model appropriate behavior.
Personal devices should remain out of sight during volunteer hours.
Hours may not be approved if volunteers are passive, disengaged, or disruptive.
Permission to volunteer may be revoked if expectations are not met and feedback is not followed.
Activities & Off-Campus Expectations
Volunteers are welcome to interact with students during mealtimes (Lunch: 12–1pm; Dinner: 6–6:30pm, Mon–Fri).
If an off-campus activity occurs, volunteers must provide their own transportation.
Some activities may involve personal costs; volunteers are responsible for their own expenses.
End of Term
All volunteering ends on the last day of each SVA term.
Volunteers wishing to continue into the next term must be reapproved and schedule with the Activities Coordinator.
